Upholstery 911

Chairs are a source of endless fascination for me and are an easy way to instantly add personality to a space.  Through the years I have re-vamped several and re-used them in new interiors.  Sofas and ottomans too.  Here is a look at a few of my upholstery re-dos.

These Moorish mismatched ottomans were purchased at a consignment store in West Palm Beach and recovered in a bold, blue and white print with contrasting coral welt to give them an extra dose of personality.

This chinoiserie sofa was languishing in storage doldrums until it got a new white lacquer finish and soft, velvet cushions.

An old Baker chair had a great shape but had seen better days.  It was stained and worn looking so we revamped the fabric and added a contrast welt to make it complement the curtains in its new home perfectly.

In another case a previous homeowner left the chair below after they moved so we decided to give it a glamorous new life as a dressing table chair in a master bath.

These beautiful mid century chairs were found by my vintage loving client so we decided to play up their playful 50's style with a graphic geometric fabric and leave the finish alone.

So don't give up on your old upholstery.  If the "bones are good" call your local upholsterer and recycle them.  It's the eco friendly thing to do!

Until next time,

 Alessandra Branca:

To say her books have inspired me is an understatement.  I find her mix of classicism and whimsy divine as she deftly mixes various periods and styles with abandon.

The Branca interiors I admire most are characterized by tented ceilings, upholstered walls, shrouded chandeliers and the color "ROSSO"
